In an earlier post I pointed out that Meebo could be used if you don’t have an instant messenger on your computer. One of the nice things about meebo is that it talks to all the other IMs out there. But, it’s web-based. If you want an IM that does this and is an application you should check out Pidgin (Linux, Windows) or Adium (OS X).
