My friend Tim turned me onto this video last night. It’s brilliantly intense. Olbermann’s use of rhetoric (the art of persuasion) is one to be studied. His boldness is humbling. And I’m shocked that he got away with it. It’s so scathing I fear for the man’s life.
You simply must watch/listen to all nine minutes. It was originally aired on September 11th, 2006.
Perhaps it’s not being mentioned because it’s too obvious, but I what I find terrifying about the troop build up is not solely the fact that they’re escalating the war(s) in the middle east (and elsewhere) and that they’re risking more lives. What I find most terrifying about an increase of 92,000 troops in the next five years is that it quite loudly intimates yet another long term commitment to making war. The cynic in me says, “Well, you’re not surprised, are you?” but that doesn’t bring me any satisfaction or do one bit of good.
