Add Auto-Pagination to Your Open Office Documents Tue. Jun 12th, 07
MLA and ASA formats, among others, require each page to have a page number. Most papers in college require that you use one of these formats. I use a template for Open Office when I need an MLA formatted paper, but I couldn’t find one for ASA. I tried to add each page number manually, but it was difficult. I wish it were as easy as adding a special character, like in InDesign, but it isn’t. This is how I did it.
I went to OOoMacros.org. I scrolled down to “pagination.” Hit “/” on your keyboard and type “pagination.” (firefox users). Download the zip file (remember where you put it). Go to Tools > Extension Manager then click Add. Find the file and click OK. Close the manager. Go to Tools > Macros > Run Macro. Expand My Macros, then expand Pagination. Click on Pagination. Under Macro Name, choose Main, and click Run. Choose which of six positions you’d like the page number to appear. Choose which number to start on and click OK. Done!
I’ve always wanted to have a template custom designed for my needs as a writer. You know, with the font I like and spacing and margins and stuff. I think I’ll figure out how to do that and then let you all know. I’ll be migrating back to Linux very soon, though, so I’ll wait until then.
P.S. That Vocab learning extension looks pretty cool. If I install it I’ll let you know how it goes.
