Boing Boing posted a picture drawn for them this week that kind of sums up the site, visually.  I noticed that there was a goat in the background with a ‘C’ drawn on it.  Obviously a reverence to goatse.cx.  As if the image were called pronounced “goatsee,” whereas I call it “goatsex.”   Are there two camps, here: the ‘goatsex’ camp and the ‘goatsee’ camp?

Boing Boing is Dead Tue. Mar 13th, 07

I just now realized that boingboing.net is dead. No need to go there, it’s still up and running. What I mean by dead is it has no life. Yes, it’s still one the the most visited blogs on the Web, and yes it’s still loved by Internet Hipsters everywhere. But it doesn’t deserve it anymore. I was just at Batdorf & Bronson with Zosia, who is 18 and very cool, and she’d never heard of Boing Boing. I tried to describe it, but she didn’t understand, so I opened my computer and showed her the site. She looked at it and wasn’t very impressed. To her it looked like a never-ending column of wonky crap. I spun the laptop around to point out the cool stuff. *scriggity scroll* *scriggity scroll* I couldn’t find any cool stuff. Nothing that stood out. Every one of the Boing Boingers seems to be phoning it in, as they say. They have better things to do than play blogger. They have *real* jobs. I don’t know how the suggest-a-link works, exactly, but I imagine that each of them logs in a couple times a day, scrolls through the suggestions looking for things that seem like stuff they’d post about, pick a few and blog ‘em. Maybe they’ll spend a few seconds looking at the site they’re linking to. Good bands go bad. That’s life. It’s only sad if the band doesn’t notice that it’s over before the fans. So, to boingboing.net: move on, we’ll get along fine without you. And, to bongboing.net fans: they were your ideas anyway, so blog ‘em!
